About the DepartmentThe Department of Microbiology in our college was established in the year 2004, under the initiative of Department of Physiology and Department of Botany, initially with 12 students. Present student intake capacity is 60. Presently there are five teachers, one assistant professor, one SACT I, two SAT II and one college contractual faculty. There are several visiting faculties who impart their valuable time for the better learning procedure of the students of the department. The infrastructural facilities of the Department are quite satisfactory. Three lecture rooms (including two smart class room), two separate practical class rooms, one instrument room and one computer room with internet facilities fulfils the needs of the students. Apart from the central library, the seminar library of the Department has been enriched with more than 200 reference books. The Department conducts educational tour every year for the students so that they can acquire the knowledge of different research works going on in several reputed Institutes across India. The Department also conducts project work as per syllabus for the 3rd year students to inspire them towards research work in future. The result of the Department is very much satisfactory. Some of our students have qualified GRE, TOEFL, GATE, SET and NET (UGC-CSIR & ICAR). Some passed out students are now involved in PhD work in several institutes of India and also in abroad. Job potential of the passed out students are also quite good. Some of them are engaged in teaching profession in different schools through WBSSC, some in several pharmaceutical industries, beverage industries, in different water purification plants as quality controller and also involved as employee in different Government and private sectors. Post Graduation course i.e. M.sc in Microbiology has been introduced in this department in the year 2021-2022 session with an initial intake of 25 students. We are glad to have students from different colleges and universities from all over India in our newly opened PG course. |
