Institutional Distinctiveness

The essence of mutual work, discipline, social responsibility towards community development and nation building is inculcated within the vision and mission of our college. Our college has distinct characteristics with multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary academic programmes. We are committed to quality and excellence in teaching, research, training and extension. Our primary objective is to deliver an exceptional education and to make significant contributions to society - locally, nationally and internationally. The college constantly motivates students and offers a platform for methodological skill development, multidisciplinary scheme development, ethical and human value development. UG and PG students are encouraged to carry out summer and winter projects. In order to inculcate the aptitude for research work in them for the future. The students’ projects are published in the two peer-viewed college journals. The College has an elaborate mentorship program. All the facilities are mentors of 6-7 students from each semester (UG & PG). They identify weak & slow learners who are provided remedial classes which are taken by reputed professors of colleges, other institutes, university and extra care is given to them during the COVID scenario. Online remedial classes were arranged also. Remedial classes are also year marked in our college main routine. The College also promotes women empowerment by organizing various activities under the aegis of its Gender Sensitization and Women Development Programmes through IQAC, NSS and NCC.

Our numerous college societal activities tends to improve the marginalized socio-economical backward section of the society by the following initiatives:

  1. Adoption of villages: Our college has adopted adjoining four villages in 2015. We take care about health hygiene, sanitation and education of 47 young children (4-16 years age group). We also provide training for their mothers in tailoring, hand painting, arts-crafts so that they can become self-independent and can earn livelihood. In 2019, five more villages have been adopted under the UBA Scheme. In the year 2020, we distributed masks, gloves and hand sanitizers to the villagers during the lock down phase.
  2. Environment friendly initiatives: Our college has initiated a practical component in the environmental sciences subject curriculum. All the students are sub-divided into 23 groups who take care of 23 plots in the college campus, keep it clean, plant many fruits and flower trees etc. In 2019, our college received a grant from the West Bengal SC/ST/OBC finance corporation where we developed a vegetable garden, a nursery, a green house and pisciculture and provide employment to several ST families from the adopted villages. The profit made from the selling of the products is shared with them. Rain water harvesting facilities are being installed in the college buildings.
  3. Assistance provided to the local Gram Panchayat: In order to promote agricultural growth through organic farming or by using organic fertilizer, we have made a plan to produce and distribute organic fertilizer to the farmers of our adopted villages such as, Bagdubi, Murakata, Kankabati, Nepura and Lohatikri. Hence we have decided to implement a project on production (through solid waste management) and free distribution of organic fertilizer to the farmers of adopted villages. Furthermore, potable safe drinking water is becoming very scarce with time both in the rural areas as well as the urban areas. This is largely because of bad management and wrongful exploitation of water resources. Hence, our college has intended to implement a project on installation of water filter systems in the adopted villages. Recently, in the financial year of 2020-2021our college has also funded Rs. 1.0 lakh to the Kankabati Grampanchayat for developing the village road of Muradanga which is connected with our college premises.
